How do I join scottishreefers?
This is the most common question asked and really it's quite simple!
There is no membership fee and there is no "subscription". The club is largely informal and membership is simply by contributing to the club activities. That is contribute to the website (articles, or photo's), contribute to discussion, we have our own section on the Ultimatereef bulletin board, and come along to our meetings.
You don't need to have a tank up and running now, many of our members are just starting out or are in the throe's of setting up a system, and seeing other peoples systems is often the best way to get ideas of how to do things.
If you do have a tank don't be surprised to come away from your first meeting with a healthy "starter community" of frags, algae and sometimes other critters! Most healthy reefs produce a surplus of corals that we usually share amongst our hobbiest community.
Whats in it for the "givers"? Well one day when your system is thriving you might be in a position to reciprocate. Exchanging frags takes pressure off wild stocks, in fact many tanks are stocked with life thats never seen a tropical ocean! Many corals (hard and soft, are third or fourth generation grow out's.
If you have a "coral farm" and want to publicise it or your frags, do it via this website, we would be happy to show your efforts to the wider community, free frags can be shown free, frags for sale might incur a small fee for display on the site.
With the amount of visits we have you are pretty likely to get a number of enquiries, especially for unusual corals.
